The Beijing Marathon

The Beijing Marathon is a big, fun race that happens every year in Beijing, People's Republic of China. People from all around the world come to run together. They get to see amazing places in Beijing while they run.

The race starts at Tiananmen Square and ends in Celebration Square near the Olympic Green. Everyone who joins runs the same long distance: 42.195 kilometers. That’s a full marathon!

This race is very special. It was the first big international sports event ever held in China. It made history again by being the first marathon to use a lottery system to decide who can join. It’s also the first full marathon to happen only in China. Because of these things, it’s a very exciting event for runners everywhere.

The Beijing Marathon has been happening every year since 1981. It’s put together by the Chinese Athletics Association. The course is checked and approved by AIMS and is a Gold Label Road Race by World Athletics.

Runners love this race because they get to see famous places like the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the National Museum of China. It’s a wonderful way to explore a beautiful city while doing something healthy and fun.

Some years, the race had to change because of things like heavy air or big health events. But each time, people came back to run together again. In 2022, there were about 30,000 runners, which was the first big event since 2019.

Many amazing runners have won the Beijing Marathon. Some of the fastest times ever run on this course are shown below.
