Dante Alighieri
Dante Alighieri, often just called Dante, was a famous Italian poet who lived a long time ago. He was born in Florence around the year 1265. Dante grew up in a city full of exciting stories and big ideas. His mother passed away when he was very young.
Dante loved to write poems and stories. He is best known for a very special book called the Divine Comedy. This book is about a journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. Many people around the world read and love this story.
Dante decided to write in his own language, the Tuscan dialect, instead of Latin, which many writers used back then. This helped shape the way people speak Italian today. Because of his wonderful writing, Dante is called il Sommo Poeta, meaning "the Supreme Poet." He is one of Italy's greatest writers.
Dante had to leave his hometown of Florence because of some political problems. He lived in other cities like Verona and Ravenna. Even while away from home, Dante kept writing. He spent his last days in Ravenna, where he passed away in 1321.
Today, people still remember Dante for his beautiful poems and stories. His book, the Divine Comedy, continues to inspire many artists and writers. You can still visit places connected to Dante, like his tomb in Ravenna and his house museum in Florence.
