What Is History?

History is the story of everything that happened before us. It helps us understand why our world looks the way it does today. By looking at old letters, photos, and things found underground, we can learn about people and events from long ago. This makes history like a big puzzle that we piece together.

How Do We Learn About History?

Historians are like detectives of the past. They ask questions and search for clues in old documents, diaries, and pictures. These clues are called sources. Historians check if these sources are real and trustworthy. Then, they put all the pieces together to tell us what happened long ago. They might study a special time, like the Stone Age, or a place, such as ancient Egypt.

Fun Times and Places in History

History can be divided into different times and places. One way is to look at long periods, like prehistory, ancient history, or modern history. We can also study history by looking at specific spots, from small towns to huge continents like Africa, Asia, and Europe. Each place has its own special story to tell.

Why History Matters

Learning about history helps us understand our world better. It shows us how people lived, what they believed, and how they changed over time. History connects us to our families and cultures. It also teaches us to think carefully and ask questions. By studying the past, we can make better choices for the future. History is taught in schools around the world because it is important for everyone to know.
