Lent
Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience
Lent is a special time for many Christians around the world. It lasts for 40 days and leads up to the happy celebration of Easter. During Lent, people like to do extra praying, eat simpler foods, and help others. This helps them remember an important story about Jesus.
Many Christian groups do Lent a little differently. Some start on Ash Wednesday, while others begin on Clean Monday. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week. This week has special days like Palm Sunday and Good Friday. It ends with the joyful Easter, celebrating that Jesus came back to life.
The word Lent comes from an old English word meaning “spring season.” This is because Lent happens in spring. Different languages have their own names for Lent, showing how many people celebrate it. For example, in German it is called Fastenzeit, meaning “fasting period.”
Lent is a time for kindness, thinking, and showing love. It is a wonderful way for families and friends to spend time together and remember important stories.
