The Happy London Run
The London Marathon is a big, fun run that happens every year in London, England. People from all over the world come to run together. It started a long time ago, in 1981, because two men named Chris Brasher and John Disley thought it would be nice to have a race by the River Thames.
The race is 26.2 miles long. That’s a little more than a marathon! Runners start in a place called Blackheath and finish at The Mall, near a big, famous palace. Along the way, they pass many cool sights like Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
Many people run the London Marathon to help others. They raise money for charities, which means they help people who need support. Since the race began, it has helped raise lots and lots of money for good causes.
There are different kinds of races at the London Marathon. There is a big race for everyone, special races for very fast runners, and even races for people who use wheelchairs. Everyone gets to join in the fun!
Every year, the race has new ideas and ways to make it even better. In 2026, there will be a shorter run called “Friday Night Lights” at Battersea Park. This will be a fun way for more people to enjoy the excitement of the marathon.
The London Marathon is one of the biggest and most famous runs in the world. It is part of a group called the World Marathon Majors. Famous runners have set super-fast times here, like Kelvin Kiptum and Paula Radcliffe.
So, if you ever want to run with thousands of people, see amazing places, and help others, the London Marathon might be just the race for you!
