The Amazing Maya

The Maya were a clever group of people who lived a long time ago in a big area called Mesoamerica. Today, this area includes parts of Mexico, all of Guatemala, Belize, and parts of Honduras and El Salvador. They built huge cities with tall pyramid-temples and made beautiful art and writing called glyphs.

The Maya were great at counting and were one of the first people to use the idea of zero. They made special calendars to keep track of time and could even predict when the moon would change or when stars would move. Their cities had important buildings in the center and homes spread out around them, connected by roads called causeways.

Today, many people called Maya still live in these places and speak many different languages. The Maya left behind wonderful things like carvings, paintings, and buildings that help us learn about their smart ways of living. Their stories, art, and buildings continue to amaze people all over the world.
