All About Saturn
Saturn is a beautiful planet in our Solar System. It is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest, after Jupiter. Saturn is very special because it has bright, lovely rings made of ice and small rocks. These rings are one of the most famous things in space!
Unlike Earth, Saturn is a gas giant. This means it is made mostly of gas and does not have a solid surface that you could stand on. Saturn is less heavy than water, which is funny to think about — if you could put it in a giant bathtub, it would float!
Saturn has many moons. At least 292 moons orbit around it, and 63 have official names. The biggest moon is Titan. Titan is larger than the planet Mercury and is the only moon with a big atmosphere. Saturn’s atmosphere looks pale yellow because of tiny crystals floating in it.
Fun Facts
Saturn is named after the Roman god of wealth and agriculture. People have known about Saturn for a very long time. It looks like a bright, yellowish star in the night sky when it is far away from us. Sometimes, Saturn’s rings can seem to disappear, but they always come back!
