Sugar is a sweet taste we love to add to our food and drinks. It comes from special plants like sugarcane and sugar beet. When we eat something sweet like a cookie or a cup of tea, it often has sugar in it.

There are different kinds of sugar. The most common one is called sucrose, which is what we put in our tea. We also find sugar in milk, called lactose, and in grains, called maltose. All these sugars are types of carbohydrate.

People have used sugar for a very long time. It started in ancient India, and later spread to many parts of the world. Today, sugar is used everywhere, from cakes to soft drinks. But it’s important to remember that eating too much sugar isn’t good for our bodies.
