What Is a Tendon?

A tendon is a very strong tissue in our bodies. It connects our muscles to our bones. When our muscles pull, the tendons help move our bones. This lets us bend, stretch, and do many fun things every day.

Tendons are made mostly of a special protein called collagen. This makes them strong and bendable at the same time. Our bodies have about 4,000 tendons! They work together to help our muscles and bones.

How Tendons Help Us

Tendons let our muscles pull on our bones. This is how we can walk, jump, and play. For example, the Achilles tendon in our heel helps us take steps when we walk. Tendons can even store a little energy, like tiny springs, to make moving easier.

Tendons are very important for our health. Eating good food and doing the right exercises can help keep our tendons strong and healthy.

Tendons in Nature

Tendons are not just in people. Many animals have them too! For example, some birds and dinosaurs had special tendons that could turn into bone in certain places. This helped support their bodies.

Tendons are amazing parts of our bodies that help us move and stay active.
