In Slavic mythology, Perun (Cyrillic: Перун) is the highest god of the pantheon. He is the god of powerful forces of nature, like the sky, thunder, lightning, storms, and rain. Perun also oversees important parts of life such as law, war, fertility, and oak trees.
Perun has many symbols that show his strength. These include fire, mountains, wind, iris, eagle, the firmament, horses, carts, and weapons like the hammer, axe, and arrow.
During the 9th and 10th centuries, Perun was the main god in Kievan Rus'. At first, he was linked with weapons made of stone, and later, with weapons made of metal. Perun is still an important figure in Slavic culture and mythology.
