1936 Summer Olympics medal table

The 1936 Summer Olympics, officially called the Games of the XI Olympiad, was a big sports event in Berlin, Germany. It happened from 1 August to 16 August. Berlin was also meant to host the 1916 Summer Olympics, but those games were cancelled because of the First World War.
Athletes from 49 National Olympic Committees took part in many sports. This was the biggest gathering of nations at the Olympics up to that time.
Germany, as the host country, won the most medals. Many other countries won medals too.
There were some issues around the Games. Some countries thought about not joining because of Germany’s Nazi regime, but they still took part.
Two special things happened. Marjorie Gestring became the youngest Olympic champion ever at age 13, winning gold in the women's 3 meter springboard. Because Korea was under Japanese rule at the time, Korean athletes competed for the Japanese team. Sohn Kee-chung won gold in the marathon. His teammate Nam Sung-yong won the bronze in that same race.
Medal table
The medal table shows which countries won the most medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics. It is based on information from the International Olympic Committee. Countries are ranked by how many gold medals their athletes won, then by silver medals, and finally by bronze medals. If two countries have the same number of medals, they are listed in alphabetical order.
In some events, athletes tied for medals. In the lightweight weightlifting, both an athlete from Austria and one from Egypt won gold, so no silver medal was given out for that event. In the floor gymnastics competition, two athletes tied for third place, so both received bronze medals. This led to 130 gold and bronze medals being awarded, but only 128 silver medals.
