Bantamweight

The bantamweight event was part of the amateur boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics. It took place at the Workers Indoor Arena. Boxers in this group could weigh up to 54 kilograms.

All boxing events, including bantamweight, followed a single-elimination style. This means a boxer was out of the competition after one loss. A special rule was that both boxers who lost in the semifinals got bronze medals, so they did not fight again after their first loss.

Each fight had four rounds. Each round lasted two minutes with a one-minute break in between. For a punch to count, the white part of the glove had to hit the front of the opponent’s head or body. Five judges watched each fight, and a punch was scored only if at least three judges signaled it within one second. The boxer with the most valid punches at the end of the fight won.

Participants

Khavazhi Khatsigov from Belarus replaced Gary Russell Jr. from the USA because Gary was hurt.
