Buzău County is a place in Romania, a country in Europe. It is in a part of Romania called Muntenia. The main city in Buzău County is called Buzău, and it is the capital of the county. Counties like Buzău help organize how people live and govern the area.
Demographics
In 2011, Buzău County had 432,054 people. There were about 70.7 people living in each square kilometer.
Most people, about 97%, were Romanians. A small number, less than 3%, were Romani, and there were also some others.

Geography
Buzău County covers an area of 6,103 km2. In the north, you can find the Vrancea Mountains and the Buzău Mountains, which rise over 1,700 meters. These heights gradually decrease towards the south and east, leading to the Bărăgan Plain, which sits around 80 meters above sea level.
The main river in the county is the Buzău River. It gathers water from many smaller rivers in the mountains and flows eastward into the Siret River.
Neighbours
The county borders Brăila County to the east, Prahova County and Brașov County to the west, Covasna County and Vrancea County to the north, and Ialomița County to the south.
Economy
Buzău County has many important jobs. People there make parts for machines, trains, and cars. They also make metal pieces, glass, food, clothes, and wood products.
The hilly lands are good for growing wine and fruits. The county also gets salt and oil from the ground.
Tourism
Buzău County has many fun places to visit. You can explore the city of Buzău, hike in the Vrancea Mountains and Buzău Mountains, and see the Berca Mud Volcanoes. There are also museums and beautiful spots like the amber museum in Colți, Ciolanu Monastery, Măgura sculpture camp, Rătești Monastery, and the Sărata-Monteoru Resort to discover.
Politics
The Buzău County Council was renewed in the 2020 local elections. It has 32 councillors from different political parties.

Buzău County has different places to live. It has 2 big cities, called municipalities. The main city is Buzău. The other big city is Râmnicu Sărat. There are also 3 smaller cities, known as towns. These are Nehoiu, Pătârlagele, and Pogoanele.
The county also includes 82 smaller areas called communes. These communes have many names, such as Amaru, Bălăceanu, and Balta Albă, among others.
Historical county
Buzău County was once found in the central-southern part of Greater Romania, in the northeastern area of the historical region of Muntenia. Its area covered parts of today’s Buzău County and some places now in Prahova County, including the town of Mizil. It shared borders with several counties, including Prahova County, Brașov, Râmnicu Sărat, and Ialomița County.
Over time, the county was divided into different areas called districts. In the late 1800s, it had six districts. Later, during a period called the interwar time, it was first split into four districts and then changed again to seven districts.
According to records from 1930, the county had many people living there. Most were Romanians, with small groups of other groups living there too. The majority practiced Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
