History
CBRE Group began in 1906 as Tucker, Lynch & Coldwell. It changed its name several times. In 1918, it became Coldwell, Kern & Banker, and later just Coldwell Banker. In 1981, it was bought by Sears, but in 1989, it became its own company again and was called CB Commercial Real Estate Group.
In 1998, it merged with Richard Ellis International and became CB Richard Ellis, or CBRE. The company grew by buying other real estate firms, like Koll Real Estate Services in 1997 and Trammell Crow Company in 2006. In 2020, CBRE moved its headquarters from Los Angeles to Dallas, Texas. In 2021, it bought part of a UK company called Turner & Townsend and planned to merge some of its businesses with them. In January 2025, CBRE set up its new global financial headquarters at Lever House in Midtown Manhattan. Today, CBRE is the world's largest commercial real estate services and investment firm.
