The Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary (CALD), often called the Cambridge Dictionary, is a British dictionary of the English language. It was first published in 1995 and is very helpful for people learning English. The latest version, the 4th Edition, includes more than 140,000 words, phrases, and meanings. It covers many subjects like technology, media, and everyday life.

This dictionary is good for learners who are at an advanced level. It has a special 32-page section to help with writing. There is also an online version that lets people use the dictionary and thesaurus on computers and other devices. The dictionary is made by the Cambridge University Press and uses real examples to show how words are used.

Editions

The Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary has had many editions. The first edition came out in 2003. The second edition followed in 2005. The third edition was released in 2008. The fourth edition came out on June 6, 2013. Each edition makes the dictionary better for learners of English.

Word of the Year

The Cambridge Dictionary Word of the Year, by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, has been chosen each year since 2015. People pick the word by looking it up often in the dictionary's search engine.

In 2020, the word was quarantine, because of the lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the word was perseverance. In 2022, the word was homer, because players of Wordle were searching for five-letter words to use in the game.
