China National Radio (CNR) is the national radio network of China, based in Beijing. It is part of the state-owned China Media Group, called the "Voice of China." CNR offers news, music, and other programs to people across the country. For many years, it has been an important way for people in China to get information and enjoy entertainment. The radio station reaches millions of listeners every day.

History

The first radio station in China started in 1940 in Yan'an. It was set up by the Chinese Communist Party and used a transmitter from Moscow. It was called Yan'an New China Radio and broadcast for two hours each day.

In 1949, the station was renamed and began broadcasting from Beiping. By December 1949, it was officially called the Central People's Broadcasting Station, just two months after the People's Republic of China was established. It provided daily programming to most of China.

Important leaders encouraged everyone to listen to the station. By the 1960s, many loudspeakers were installed so people could hear it easily. The station shared news and cultural programs, including special shows for children. Later, it became known in English as China National Radio.
