Daniel Michael DeVito Jr. was born on November 17, 1944. He is an American actor and filmmaker. People know him for his short height, deep voice, and special way of speaking.
DeVito became famous for playing a character named Louie De Palma in the TV show Taxi from 1978 to 1983. He won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award for this role.
Since 2006, many people recognize DeVito for his role as Frank Reynolds in the FXX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He has been in many popular movies such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Terms of Endearment, Romancing the Stone, Batman Returns, Twins, and Matilda. DeVito has also done voices for animated movies like Hercules, The Lorax, and Smallfoot.
DeVito started a company called Jersey Films with Michael Shamberg. Later, Stacey Sher joined as a partner. Their company made well-known films such as Pulp Fiction and Freedom Writers. DeVito was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture for the film Erin Brockovich in 2000. Besides movies, DeVito has also acted on stage, including in The Sunshine Boys in the West End and The Price on Broadway.
Early life and education
Danny DeVito was born at Raleigh Fitkin-Paul Morgan Memorial Hospital in Neptune Township, New Jersey. He grew up with his parents and two older sisters. His family is from San Fele in Calabria. He lived in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
At age 14, he went to boarding school. He finished school at Oratory Preparatory School in Summit, New Jersey in 1962. He studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and finished in 1966. In the beginning of his acting career, he performed with the Colonnades Theater Lab at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. He also acted in plays with his future wife Rhea Perlman.
Career
Danny DeVito started acting after working at his sister's hair salon. He first acted in plays and later in movies. One of his first movie roles was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Personal life
Danny DeVito is not very tall. He is 5 feet and 0 inches, or 1.52 meters, because of a rare condition called multiple epiphyseal dysplasia.
DeVito met his wife, Rhea Perlman, in 1971 when she saw a play he was in. They got married in 1982 and have three children. They have worked together in shows like Taxi and the movie Matilda. Although they separated twice, they remained good friends.
DeVito and Perlman owned a large home in Beverly Hills, California and still have homes in Malibu and Interlaken, New Jersey. DeVito enjoys music and has worked with singer Mike Patton.
