Diving at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Diving competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics happened from August 10 to August 23. The events took place at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre, a special building made just for the Olympics. Divers from many countries came to compete. They showed their skills by jumping from high platforms or boards into the water. The Olympics is a special event where athletes from all over the world compete in many different sports. Diving is one of the sports that many people like to watch.

Competition format

Divers from both men and women competed in four main events in Beijing: 3-meter springboard synchronized, 10-meter platform synchronized, 3-meter springboard, and 10-meter platform.

In individual events, divers started with preliminaries, then moved to semifinals, and finally finals. Divers were placed randomly in the preliminaries. The top 18 scores went to the semifinals, and then the top 12 scores advanced to the final competition.

Qualifying criteria

Each country could send up to 2 divers for each individual event and 1 team for each synchronized event. The spots for each event were decided by the results of qualifying competitions.
