Early Life and Career

Duff Gibson was born on August 11, 1966, in Vaughan, Ontario. He is a Canadian skeleton racer who competed from 1999 to 2006.

Olympic Success

Gibson took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where he finished tenth in the men's skeleton event. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he won the gold medal in the men's skeleton. He beat his teammate Jeff Pain and became the oldest gold medalist in Canadian Winter Olympic history, passing ice hockey player Al MacInnis.

World Championships and World Cup

Gibson won two medals at the FIBT World Championships: gold in 2004 and bronze in 2005. His best finish in the Skeleton World Cup was second place in the 2003–4 season.

Charity Work

In October 2009, Gibson helped the Stephen Lewis Foundation raise money for families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. He carried a 20-litre jug of water for about 12 km from Canada Olympic Park to his son's school in Calgary as part of the foundation’s “A Dare to Remember” campaign.
