Golf at the Summer Olympics
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Golf has been part of the Summer Olympic Games, but not always. The first time golf appeared in the Olympics was during the 1900 Summer Olympics and again in the 1904 Summer Olympics. Plans were made to include golf in the 1908 Summer Olympics and 1920 Summer Olympics, but both times the events were cancelled.
In October 2009, leaders of the Olympics decided to bring golf back to the Games. It returned for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The International Golf Federation oversees golf in the Olympics. Players qualify mainly through their rankings in the Official World Golf Ranking for men and the Women's World Golf Rankings for women. The top players from different countries get to compete, making it a true test of the world's best golfers.

Events
Men's individual and Women's individual events were part of the golf competitions at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics.
A men's individual tournament was planned for the 1908 London Games, but it was cancelled because not enough players signed up.
Two golf tournaments were planned at the 1920 Antwerp Games, but they were cancelled because not enough players signed up.
Men's individual and Women's individual events returned at the 2016 Summer Olympics, followed by the same events in 2020, and again in 2024 for Men's individual and Women's individual.
For the 2028 Summer Olympics, new events will include men's individual, women's individual, and a mixed team event. This mixed team event will feature 16 pairs of golfers competing in alternate shot and four-ball formats.
