The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH) is a company in Hong Kong. It owns and runs many famous hotels and buildings around the world. Its best-known hotels are part of The Peninsula Hotels group. These hotels are in exciting cities in Asia, the United States, and Europe. HSH also owns shops, homes, and offers services for travel, fun, and clubs.
One of the biggest shareholders of HSH is Michael Kadoorie. He owns 47% of the company's shares. This means he helps make big decisions for the company. HSH is known for giving guests good stays and services from all over the world.
History
The company started in 1866 as The Hongkong Hotel Company Limited. It owned the Hongkong Hotel, which opened in 1868. Later, the Kadoorie family bought the company in the 1890s. In 1922, it merged with the Shanghai Hotel and changed its name to Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels the next year.
It was one of the first companies in Hong Kong to list on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. In 2007, the Hong Kong Heritage Project began collecting and sharing old materials from the company, CLP Holdings, and the Kadoorie family. This collection includes audio, visual, and documentary records from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Ownership
The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited is mostly owned by the Kadoorie family. Members of this family have led the company since 1937. Elly Kadoorie was the first chairman, followed by Lawrence Kadoorie, Horace Kadoorie, and now Michael Kadoorie.

Other properties
The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels group owns several other places. These include Peak Tower and Peak Tram in Hong Kong. They also own The Repulse Bay and St. John's Building in Hong Kong. The group owns Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, California.
