ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. It started in 1995 and has six big events over six weeks. These events happen in different countries, like Canada, China, Finland, France, Japan, and the United States. Skaters compete in four types of events: men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance.
After the six events, skaters earn points based on how well they do. The top skaters or teams from each event are invited to the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final for one last competition. This series is important because it helps decide who the best skaters are each season and gives them a chance to show their skills to the world.
History
The International Skating Union began the Champions Series in the 1995–96 season. This series was later called the Grand Prix Series. It had five qualifying competitions and a final event. It helped skaters practice and get ready for the World Championships.
The first five events were the 1995 Nations Cup, the 1995 NHK Trophy, the 1995 Skate America, the 1995 Skate Canada, and the 1995 Trophée de France. Skaters earned points. The top skaters could then compete in the Champions Series Final.
Today, the Grand Prix Series has events like Skate Canada International, Cup of China, Grand Prix of Finland, Grand Prix de France, NHK Trophy, Skate America, and the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Some events were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic or other reasons. The Junior Grand Prix started in 1997 for younger skaters, and it also has its own final event.
Grand Prix champions
The Grand Prix of Figure Skating has champions in four groups: men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. Every year, skaters compete in six events to earn points. The top skaters then qualify for the Grand Prix Final.
