Juan-les-Pins

Juan-les-Pins is a beautiful town in the commune of Antibes in the Alpes-Maritimes department in Southeastern France. It is on the sunny French Riviera, a famous place for vacations. The town is between the cities of Nice and Cannes, just 13 kilometres (8 miles) from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport.

History

Juan-les-Pins is west of the town of Antibes, near the old fishing village of Golfe-Juan, where Napoleon arrived in 1815. The area had many stone pine trees, which is why it is called "les-Pins" in French. People from Antibes often walked there for picnics and to collect branches for fires.

The village was officially named Juan-les-Pins on March 12, 1882. The name "Juan" comes from the local Occitan language. In 1926, a famous hotel called Le Provençal opened, welcoming well-known guests like Charlie Chaplin, Lilian Harvey, Jack L. Warner, and Man Ray.

The town is also known for hosting the Antibes 6 Day Race. It was also home to the world's first discotheque, opened in 1947. This club was later known as the 'Whisky à GoGo.' It got its name from a novel called 'Galore,' written by Compton Mackenzie that same year.
