Jupiter LIV, originally called S/2016 J 1, is a small natural satellite of the giant planet Jupiter. It was found by astronomer Scott S. Sheppard in 2016, but the discovery was shared with the world on June 2, 2017. This tiny moon is about 1 kilometer wide and travels around Jupiter at a distance of roughly 20,650,845 kilometers. Jupiter LIV is part of a group of moons called the Ananke group, which share similar paths around Jupiter. Discovering moons like Jupiter LIV helps scientists learn more about how Jupiter and its system of moons formed and evolved.
