Kim Boutin
Kim Boutin (born December 16, 1994) is a Canadian short track speed skater. She is known for her great achievements in the sport, especially during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang, Korea.
At these Olympics, Boutin won silver in the 1,000 m race and bronze in the 500 m and 1,500 m events. She became the first Canadian female short track speed skater to win three individual Olympic medals in a single Olympics and the first Canadian woman to win a medal in the 1,500 m event.
Because of her great performance, she was chosen to be the flag bearer for Canada during the closing ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympics. In addition to her Olympic success, Boutin has also won medals in junior and senior world championships and World Cup competitions.
On November 3, 2019, she set a new world record in the women's 500m event, skating the distance in an incredible 41.936 seconds. This made her the first woman ever to complete the 500 m in under 42 seconds, showing her speed and skill in the sport.
Career
2018 Winter Olympics
Kim Boutin skated for Canada's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She won a bronze medal in the Women’s 500 m after another skater was disqualified. She also won a bronze medal in the 1,500 m and a silver medal in the 1,000 m. She became the first Canadian female short track speed skater to win three individual medals in one Olympics. She carried Canada's flag at the closing ceremony.
2022 Winter Olympics
On January 18, 2022, Boutin was named to Canada's 2022 Olympic team. She won a bronze medal in the 500 metres event. She also won silver medals in the 500 m and 1500 m at the 2022 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.
2026 Winter Olympics
On December 17, 2025, Boutin was named to Canada's 2026 Olympic team. In February 2026, she won a silver medal in the mixed 2000-metre relay.
