Kolbuszowa

Kolbuszowa is a small town in south-eastern Poland. It is in the Sandomierz Forest and part of the Subcarpathian Voivodship. It is also the capital of Kolbuszowa County.

As of June 2, 2009, the town had a population of 88,911 people.

Kolbuszowa is part of the historic region called Lesser Poland. It is near the border with another historic area known as the Czerwień Cities or Red Ruthenia. The town has a rich history and shows the cultural heritage of the area.

History

The name of Kolbuszowa comes from a landowner named Kolbusz. The town was first mentioned in 1503 and was likely founded before 1683. It was an important stop on a trade route from Sandomierz to Przemyśl.

During World War II, German forces fought nearby and damaged parts of the town. After the war, Kolbuszowa was rebuilt with new schools, a library, and a museum. In 1964, a new railroad opened, connecting Kolbuszowa to major cities across Poland.

The 2023 Netflix series (/wiki/1670(TV_series))_ was filmed at the open-air Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa.

Notable people

Kolbuszowa is the birthplace of several interesting people. Jan Bytnar was a Polish Scoutmaster who worked with the resistance during a difficult time in history. Marian Krzaklewski, born in Kolbuszowa, later became a politician and ran for president of Poland. The town was also where Hadassah and Eliezer Birnbaum, parents of famous American comedian and actor George Burns, were from.
