List of Pakistani inventions and discoveries

This article lists important inventions and discoveries made by scientists from Pakistan. These scientists worked in Pakistan and in other countries. The list starts from 1947, the year Pakistan became independent. It shows how Pakistani people have helped improve science, technology, and medicine around the world.

Chemistry

Pakistani scientists have helped advance chemistry. Naveed Zaidi, an organic chemist, created the world's first plastic magnet that works at normal room temperature. This shows how chemistry can make new materials with special qualities.

Physics

Pakistani scientist Abdus Salam made important discoveries in physics. He worked with two American scientists, Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg, to find the electroweak interaction. For this work, they won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Abdus Salam and Steven Weinberg also predicted a tiny particle called the Higgs boson. This particle helps give other particles their mass. They, with Sheldon Glashow, helped develop the Standard Model of how tiny particles behave.

Nuclear energy

A Pakistani nuclear engineer named Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood made a special tool in 1972. This tool, called the SBM probe, helps find leaks in heavy water used in nuclear power plants. Many nuclear power plants still use this tool today.

Medicine

Two important medical tools were made by people from Pakistan. The Ommaya reservoir is a special system that helps doctors give medicines, like chemotherapy, directly to the fluid around the brain. It was made by Ayub K. Ommaya, a Pakistani brain surgeon. Another tool, made by Faisal Kashif, is a non-invasive way to check the pressure inside the head. This is important for patients with brain problems.

Computing

In 1986, two brothers named Farooq Alvi made one of the first computer viruses called (c)Brain in Lahore, Pakistan. They did this to stop people from copying their software without permission.

Another important invention is the Neurochip, created by Naweed Syed, an inventor from Pakistan who lives in Canada.

Music

The Sagar veena is a special string instrument for classical music. It was made in Pakistan by Raza Kazim at the Sanjannagar Institute in Lahore.

Economics

The Human Development Index was created by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq in 1990. It aimed to change development economics from just money to helping people.
