Charles Darwin was a famous scientist who studied many living things and helped us understand how they change over time. He described many different groups of animals, called taxa, during his work. Most of the animals he studied were barnacles, small creatures that stick to rocks and ships.

This list shows some of the barnacles and other animals that Darwin discovered and named. One example is the Balanus improvisus, also known as the bay barnacle. Others include the Balanus nubilus, a very large barnacle, and the Megabalanus coccopoma, called the titan acorn barnacle.

Darwin’s work helped scientists learn more about how animals live and grow. By studying these creatures, he added important knowledge to the world of biology. Many of the names he gave are still used today to describe these interesting animals.
