Megadiverse countries
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
A megadiverse country is a special group of nations that are home to most of Earth’s plants and animals, including many species found nowhere else in the world. These countries have lots of different kinds of life, which scientists call biodiversity. In 1998, an organization called Conservation International chose 17 places as megadiverse countries. All of them are in warm areas near the equator or in subtropical zones.
Being megadiverse means a country has many plants and animals that live only there. To be part of this group, a country needs to have at least 5,000 types of plants that grow only in that place, and it must also have areas where the sea meets the land. These countries are very important for protecting Earth’s natural home for many living things, including endemic species and different groups of plants and animals called endemism.
