Prime Minister of Bahrain

The prime minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain is the head of government of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This person is chosen by the king. The constitution does not say the prime minister must be from the Council of Representatives.

Since Bahrain became its own country, only two people have been prime minister. The first was Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who was the king's uncle. He passed away in 2020. The second and current prime minister is Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the crown prince. Before becoming prime minister, he held many important jobs. He was First Deputy Prime Minister from March 2013 until November 2020.

Today, the deputy prime minister is Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. The prime minister helps lead the country and works with the king to make important decisions.

Timeline

The prime minister of Bahrain leads the government. The king of Bahrain chooses who will be the prime minister. The constitution of the country does not say that the prime minister must be elected by the people.
