Ptilodontoidea is a group of extinct mammals from the Northern Hemisphere. They were small and looked a bit like rodents. They were part of an extinct group called Multituberculata.

One well-known member is Ptilodus, often shown looking like a squirrel. Fossils of these animals have been found in North America and Europe from the late Cretaceous period. Even later, during the Paleocene and Eocene periods, fossils were found in North America, Europe, and Asia. These were some of the last multituberculates, and they were part of a group called Cimolodonta.

The superfamily Ptilodontoidea has several families, including Neoplagiaulacidae with 10 genera, Ptilodontidae with 4 genera, and possibly Cimolodontidae with 3 genera. The place of Neoliotomus in this superfamily is not fully known, but it seems to fit within these groups.
