SS Georgic was a large steamship built by Harland & Wolff for the White Star Line. It was made to replace another ship called SS Naronic, which had been lost at sea. Before it was launched, the ship was first named Fordic, but it was soon changed to Georgic.

Georgic was mainly used to carry livestock, which means animals like cows, sheep, and horses. When it started its work in 1895, it was the biggest cargo ship in the world. It could carry a very heavy load, with a deadweight tonnage of 12,000 tons. This made it an important ship for moving goods and animals across the oceans during that time.

Career

Georgic's first trip was on 26 August 1895. She was very big, so she mostly traveled between the UK and New York. Starting in October 1909, she also went to Australia, visiting Adelaide and Sydney.

Georgic had a few accidents. She bumped into the dock twice in Liverpool. She also hit other ships a few times, but those ships usually got more damage than she did.

When World War I started in August 1914, Georgic helped carry horses and supplies from the United States to support the Allies. Sadly, on 10 December 1916, while traveling from Philadelphia to Liverpool, she was caught by a German ship called SMS Möwe. After the crew was taken off, the ship was sunk, including the horses on board.
