Sagnlandet Lejre

Sagnlandet Lejre, also called Lejre Land of Legends, is an open-air archaeology museum on the island of Zealand in Denmark. It is located about 4 kilometers northwest of the town of Lejre.

The museum began as a research institute for experimental archaeology. It helps us understand history by letting people try out old ways of doing things themselves. Visitors can see buildings, tools, and other items used in daily life long ago.

History

Lejre Land of Legends was once called the Centre for Historical-Archaeological Research and Communication. It began in 1964 by Hans-Ole Hansen to learn about the past through experiments. In 2009, it changed its name to Sagnlandet Lejre.

The site has copies of old buildings and places, like an Iron Age village and a special area for ceremonies, a Viking market, a Stone Age campsite, and an old farm. Visitors can watch workers making things like pottery and tools using old methods. The gardens and fields show how people lived long ago.

Each summer, families can visit and try living like people did in the past, wearing old clothes and using old ways to do things. Many people from around the world come to Lejre to test old ideas and techniques.
