Skateboarding at the Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Adventurer experience

Skate

Skateboarding is an exciting sport that is now part of the Summer Olympic Games. It is managed by an organization called World Skate. Skateboarding first appeared as a special sport in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. Starting with the 2028 Olympics, it will become a regular part of the games.

Athletes in skateboarding compete in two main styles: park and street. Park skateboarding takes place in a specially built bowl or park area, while street skateboarding mimics tricks done in real city environments. Japan has been very successful in these competitions, winning the most gold medals and the most total medals so far.

Bid for inclusion

In September 2015, skateboarding was chosen to be considered for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Other sports like baseball, softball, karate, surfing, and sport climbing were also chosen. In June 2016, the International Olympic Committee decided to add these sports. On August 3, 2016, all five sports were approved. Some people worried because skateboarding can be risky, but it was still included.

Summary

Skateboarding has been part of the Summer Olympic Games twice so far. It started as a special sport in the 2020 and 2024 games. In the future, at the 2028 games, skateboarding will become a regular sport that is always included. Athletes show their skills in two ways: park skateboarding and street skateboarding, each with its own competition.
