Super Football League

Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Adventurer experience

The Super Football League, often called the SFL, was the first professional club football league in Pakistan. It was started by Geo Super together with the Pakistan Football Federation.

Five teams played in the league in both 2007 and 2010. All the games were held at Karachi's Peoples Football Stadium. The SFL operated separately from the Pakistan Premier League.

This league helped bring excitement and professional play to football fans across the country.

History

The Geo TV Network and the Pakistan Football Federation worked together in 2006 to create Pakistan's first national football league for cities. The games were shown on GEO Super. This league used a franchise model and lasted two months. It was one of the few televised championships in the country at that time.

The league was different from the Pakistan Premier League because the teams were based in cities and not tied to departments. Players were chosen through trials, and many people watched the games at the Peoples Football Stadium in Karachi. The league returned in summer 2010 after a three-year break, thanks to support from KESC. However, the league stopped because the organizers and sponsors did not want to work with the Pakistan Football Federation again. This was because Geo Super focused on business, while the Federation could not use the league to improve football in the country for the long term.

Teams

The Super Football League had five teams. Each team came from a big city in Pakistan. The teams were from Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Karachi. Players on these teams were from Pakistan and other countries. The teams were called Tribe FC Peshawar, Islamabad United, Lahore Lajpaals, Quetta Zorawar, and Karachi Energy (known as Karachi Bazigar in 2007).
