Athletics

Main article: Athletics at the 1924 Summer Olympics

In 1924, 96 athletes from the United States joined the athletics events at the Paris Olympics. This was the United States' seventh time competing in athletics at the Olympics. The U.S. team entered almost all 27 events, missing only the steeplechase, racewalk, and triple jump.

The United States did very well, winning 32 medals in total—almost twice as many as the next country, Finland. They won 12 gold medals, more than any other nation. Two athletes, Houser and Osborn, each won two gold medals, and many others also won medals. In total, 37 of the 96 athletes won at least one medal.

Main article: Diving at the 1924 Summer Olympics

Ten divers from the United States, five men and five women, competed in the 1924 Olympics. This was the fifth time the United States joined Olympic diving. They were the only country to have been in every Olympic diving event up to that year. The American divers did very well. They won all the medals in three of the five events and took the top two spots in another.

White was the best diver, winning gold medals in both of his events. Becker won a gold and a silver medal. Smith won a gold medal, and Pinkston won two bronze medals. Other divers who won silver medals were Riggin, Fall, and Desjardins, and Fletcher won a bronze medal. Thrash and Meany were the only two American divers who did not win medals.

Main article: Equestrian at the 1924 Summer Olympics

Five horse riders from the United States joined the games in 1924. This was the United States' fourth time in Olympic horse events, and they were the only country to join every time. Doak won a bronze medal in the individual eventing. This was the United States' first medal since 1912 and their best result ever in this sport. Doak and Carr almost won a silver medal in the team event, but Barry and Padgett did not finish, so the team did not get a score. In the show jumping competition, Padgett and Bontecou did not finish either, so the United States did not get a score there. Barry’s 25th place was the best individual result in show jumping.
