The United States joined the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. This was a big event where athletes from many countries came together to compete in different sports.
In total, 299 athletes from the United States took part. Most were men, with 275 men and 24 women. They competed in 108 events across 18 sports, showing their skills and trying to win medals.
The Olympics is a special tradition where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to celebrate sports and fair play. The 1924 Games in Paris were important, and the United States had many talented athletes who worked hard.

Athletics

In 1924, 96 athletes from the United States joined the athletics events at the Paris Olympics. This was the United States' seventh time competing in athletics at the Olympics. The U.S. team entered almost all 27 events, missing only the steeplechase, racewalk, and triple jump.
The United States did very well, winning 32 medals in total—almost twice as many as the next country, Finland. They won 12 gold medals, more than any other nation. Two athletes, Houser and Osborn, each won two gold medals, and many others also won medals. In total, 37 of the 96 athletes won at least one medal.
Boxing

Sixteen boxers from the United States joined the 1924 Olympics in Paris. This was the third time the U.S. took part in Olympic boxing. The U.S. team won six medals, the most of any country. Two American boxers competed in the featherweight final, and Fields won the gold medal. LaBarba won gold in the flyweight, and Fee earned bronze in the same class. The U.S. also won silver and bronze medals in the bantamweight and lightweight classes.
Cycling

Five cyclists from the United States joined the 1924 Olympics. It was the sixth time the United States joined in cycling events, the same number as France.

Diving

Ten divers from the United States, five men and five women, competed in the 1924 Olympics. This was the fifth time the United States joined Olympic diving. They were the only country to have been in every Olympic diving event up to that year. The American divers did very well. They won all the medals in three of the five events and took the top two spots in another.
White was the best diver, winning gold medals in both of his events. Becker won a gold and a silver medal. Smith won a gold medal, and Pinkston won two bronze medals. Other divers who won silver medals were Riggin, Fall, and Desjardins, and Fletcher won a bronze medal. Thrash and Meany were the only two American divers who did not win medals.

Equestrian

Five horse riders from the United States joined the games in 1924. This was the United States' fourth time in Olympic horse events, and they were the only country to join every time. Doak won a bronze medal in the individual eventing. This was the United States' first medal since 1912 and their best result ever in this sport. Doak and Carr almost won a silver medal in the team event, but Barry and Padgett did not finish, so the team did not get a score. In the show jumping competition, Padgett and Bontecou did not finish either, so the United States did not get a score there. Barry’s 25th place was the best individual result in show jumping.

The United States played in the Olympic football tournament in 1924 for the second time. Their first match was on May 25, 1924, and they won 1–0. In their next match on May 29, 1924, they played against Uruguay and lost 0–3. The team finished in 9th place.
