Long ago, the Hackensack tribe of Lenape people lived here. They called the place Meghgectecock, meaning “where May-apples grow.” The area’s name changed over time and became part of different counties before becoming what it is today.

West Hudson has a strong history with soccer. Kearny is known as “Soccer Town, USA.” Many soccer teams have come from this area. Big stadiums like Sports Illustrated Stadium are here. The area also has many train lines and important rail connections. There are plans for a new high-speed rail line called the Gateway Project. Each year, the Saint Patrick's Day Parade brings people together for celebration.
