Barry Buccaneers

The Barry Buccaneers are the athletic teams that represent Barry University, located in Miami Shores, Florida, United States, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Buccaneers compete as members of the Sunshine State Conference. Barry has been a part of this conference since 1988.
Barry University currently has 20 different sports teams for both men and women. One of the newest teams is the men's volleyball team, which started in the 2024โ25 school year. In the future, Barry plans to add men's and women's lacrosse teams in 2027.
Even though the Sunshine State Conference does not have men's volleyball, Barry still competes for the NCAA national championship in that sport. This means they compete against teams from both Division I and II for the title.
History
The Barry Buccaneers are the sports teams for Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. In their first 33 years, they won 18 national championships. Since joining the Sunshine State Conference in 1988, they have won 66 conference titles in 14 different sports. They are the only school in the conference to have won a title in all 12 sports they support. The women's teams have won the SSC Women's Mayor's Cup All-Sports Trophy five times. The men's teams also won the Mayor's Cup in 2006โ07, shared it in 2008โ09, and won it again in 2010โ11.

Championships
As of the 2019โ20 season, Barry University has won 22 national championships. Some of the sports that have won the most titles include women's soccer, volleyball, men's golf, men's tennis, and women's tennis, each winning three titles. Rowing has won two titles, and women's golf won its first title. Men's tennis was the first sport at Barry to win NCAA championships during undefeated seasons, achieving this in 2013 and 2015. Women's tennis set a program record in 2017 with a perfect season, going 30โ0.

Notable alumni
Some players from Barry University's baseball team have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. These include pitcher Henry Owens, catcher Yan Gomes, pitcher Tyler Kinley, and second baseman Alex De Goti. Another MLB pitcher, Josh James, attended Barry for a short time before moving on to Western Oklahoma State College.
