Illustration of a trilobite, an ancient sea creature from millions of years ago.

Benthamaspis was an extinct group of tiny sea creatures called trilobites. Trilobites were special kinds of animals that lived in the ocean millions of years ago. They had hard shells and three parts to their bodies, which is why they are called "three-lobed."

Benthamaspis lived during the early part of the Arenig stage in the Ordovician Period. This was a time long ago, between about 478 and 471 million years back. Many different kinds of sea animals lived during this time, and Benthamaspis was one of them.

These ancient creatures are important to scientists because their fossils help us learn about life in the oceans so long ago. By studying fossils like those of Benthamaspis, we can see how animals changed and evolved over millions of years.
