Christopher John Albright was born on January 14, 1979. He is an American former professional soccer player. After his playing career, Albright became the general manager for the Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. His work helps guide the team’s strategies and player selections, making him an important figure in the world of soccer today.

Youth and college

Chris Albright went to William Penn Charter School. He started as a forward and played college soccer at the University of Virginia for two years. In 1999, he was named an All-American.

Club career

Chris Albright was seen as one of the best players coming up and joined D.C. United. He helped the team win the 1999 MLS Cup before moving to the Los Angeles Galaxy. With the Galaxy, he became a top defender and won two more MLS Cups and a U.S. Open Cup.

Albright later played for the New England Revolution and the New York Red Bulls, where he helped the team win the Eastern Conference title. He ended his career with his hometown team, the Philadelphia Union, retiring after the 2013 season.

International career

Chris Albright played for the United States national team. His first game was on September 8, 1999, against Jamaica, where he scored a goal. By 2007, he had played 21 games for the team.

He was an alternate for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and joined the final team when another player got injured. However, he did not play in any matches during the tournament.

Post-playing career

In January 2014, Albright joined the Philadelphia Union as assistant technical director. He helped with player management and decisions about players and coaches.

In October 2021, FC Cincinnati hired Albright as their new general manager.

Honors

Chris Albright has won many awards during his career. With D.C. United, he won the MLS Cup and the MLS Supporters Shield in 1999. With the New England Revolution, he won the North American SuperLiga in 2008. While playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, he won the MLS Cup twice, in 2002 and 2005, the MLS Supporters Shield in 2002, and the U.S. Open Cup in 2005. He was also named to the MLS Best XI team in 2005.

As a manager, he helped Philadelphia Union win the Supporters Shield in 2020 and FC Cincinnati win it in 2023.
