Fantasy basketball is a fun game where people act like they are team owners and managers in a virtual basketball world. After the success of early fantasy leagues like Rotisserie League Baseball, people started applying the same idea to other sports, including basketball. This became more popular because the Internet made it easier to find and use sports statistics.

In 2014, the NBA supported a company called FanDuel that offered daily fantasy sports. Later, a big court decision in 2018 made it clearer that these games were allowed in many places in the United States. By August 2022, FanDuel offered daily fantasy basketball in 44 states. In the 2021/2022 NBA Fantasy season, a player named Henry Murray achieved a special first victory, which is still remembered by fans.

League types

Fantasy basketball can be played in different ways. In rotisserie leagues, teams are ranked by how well they do in certain stats like points, rebounds, and assists. The team with the best overall stats wins. In head-to-head leagues, teams compete against each other each week. The team that scores the most points during the week wins that matchup.

There are different ways to score in head-to-head leagues. One way is to award points for winning the most categories, like scoring the most points or getting the most rebounds. Another way is to give a win for each category a team wins, like having the most assists. Teams can also just add up all the points their players earn during the week to see who wins.

Daily fantasy basketball

Daily fantasy basketball is a fun game similar to regular fantasy basketball. Players pick a team of NBA players who earn points based on real-life performance, but instead of keeping the same team all season, contests only last one day. Draft

Before each season, fantasy basketball leagues have a draft. During the draft, each team picks players from the NBA to add to their roster. Players stay with the team that picked them unless they are traded or dropped, which means they become available for any team to claim.

Team rosters

In a standard fantasy basketball league with 12 teams, each team manager usually picks 13 players for their roster. The players are chosen for different positions on the basketball court, such as point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. There are also extra spots for guards, forwards, and utility players, plus some bench spots for extra players.

Some leagues have a special spot called the Injury Reserve (IR) for players who get hurt and can't play for a long time. This adds one more player to the roster, making it 14 players total. Some leagues also have rules about how many players you can pick for each position, so that every team has a fair chance to get the players they want.
