Ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Women's tournament

The women's tournament in ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics took place in Beijing, China, from February 3 to February 17, 2022. Ten countries competed in this exciting event. Six teams earned their spots based on their rankings by the International Ice Hockey Federation, while China joined in automatically as the host nation. The remaining three teams qualified through a special tournament.
The United States was the defending champion from the previous Olympics. In a thrilling final, Canada won the gold medal by beating the United States 3–2. Finland secured the bronze medal after a strong 4–0 victory against Switzerland. The order of the top teams was the same as in the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Ten countries took part in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. Six teams got their spots by their rankings, one team was China as the host country, and three more teams earned their places through a special qualification tournament. The United States were the team that had won the last Olympics.

b Halifax and Truro were the sites for 2020 IIHF World Championship; the conclusion of the tournament the ranking was to be finalized with regards to the direct qualification slots, but several 2020 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeding for 2020 was used in lieu of placement to determine ranking for unplayed tournaments.
Format
The ten teams were divided into two groups, each with five teams. In each group, every team played against the others once. All teams from Group A and the top three teams from Group B moved on to the quarterfinals. After the group stage, the teams competed in a knockout system to decide the final results.

Tiebreak criteria
In each group, teams were ranked by how many points they earned. Teams got points like this: three for a win in regular time, two for a win in overtime or shootout, one for a loss in overtime or shootout, and zero for a loss in regular time.
If two teams had the same number of points, the result of their game against each other decided who was higher. If three or four teams had the same points, more rules were used to decide the ranking. These rules looked at points from games between the tied teams, goal differences in those games, goals scored, and the 2021 IIHF World Ranking.
