Ice hockey in Germany is a very popular sport. It is not as popular as Handball or football, but many people love to watch and play it. Today, ice hockey in Germany is organized by the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, which is the top professional league, and by the Deutschen Eishockey-Bund, the country's ice hockey federation. This federation is part of the International Ice Hockey Federation, connecting Germany with ice hockey fans all around the world.

History
For many years, people in Germany have enjoyed games on the ice. One traditional food, called Eisbein, is named after a bone used to make early ice skates. In 1864, the first skating club was started in Frankfurt. By 1881, Frankfurt had built one of the world's earliest artificial ice rinks, using a special cooling system.
The first official ice hockey game in Germany was played in 1897 in Berlin. Soon after, more clubs began forming ice hockey teams. By 1908, ice hockey became part of a larger German sports organization, and Germany joined an international ice hockey group in 1909.
Germany's national team has had many successes over the years, winning medals in the Winter Olympics and European championships. After World War II, Germany formed its own top league for ice hockey. The national team continues to compete on the world stage, and in the 2018 Winter Olympics won a silver medal.
