Kyle Field is a large stadium in College Station, Texas, on the campus of Texas A&M University. It has been home to the Texas A&M Aggies football team since 1904. By 2021, it could hold over 100,000 people, making it the biggest stadium in the Southeastern Conference and one of the largest in the world.
The most crowded game ever held at Kyle Field happened on October 11, 2014, when over 110,000 fans watched Texas A&M play against the Ole Miss Rebels. In June 2024, the stadium also hosted the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history, featuring the famous country singer George Strait, with a crowd of more than 110,000 people.
History
Beginning
In the fall of 1904, Edwin Jackson Kyle, a Texas A&M graduate and teacher, wanted to create a place for the school's sports. Since the school wouldn’t pay for it, Kyle used his own land and money to build a small stadium. He bought seats and added more places to sit so that 500 people could watch games.
Soon after, the school made this area the official home for football and baseball. Students began calling it “Kyle Field” to honor the man who built it. Later, it was officially named after him.
Facility improvements
In 1927, Texas A&M built a bigger, permanent stadium. Over the years, they kept adding more seats and features. By 1956, the stadium was officially called “Kyle Field.” More seats were added in the 1960s, 1980s, and 1990s, making it bigger and better for fans.
In 2013, they started a big project to rebuild Kyle Field. They worked on it in stages so that games could still happen each season. By 2015, the stadium could hold over 100,000 fans, making it one of the biggest in the country.
2013–2015 renovation
The renovation of Kyle Field began in 2013 and finished in 2015. They tore down old parts and built new ones, making sure games could still be played each season. This work made Kyle Field one of the largest stadiums in the United States.
Notable events
On November 26, 1999, Texas A&M played an important game just after a sad event called the Aggie Bonfire. Many fans came to support the team.
After the events of September 11, 2001, fans showed their colors by wearing red, white, and blue, making the whole stadium look like the American flag.
Texas A&M played its first game in the Southeastern Conference on September 8, 2012.
On June 15, 2024, a concert by George Strait at Kyle Field set a new record for the most people to attend a single show in the United States, with over 110,000 fans.
Intimidating venue
Kyle Field is often called one of the most exciting college football stadiums in the country. In the 1990s, the Texas A&M Aggies had an amazing home record, winning 55 games out of 60, with 31 wins in a row at Kyle Field from 1990 to 1995. Even though the team’s success changed over the years, Kyle Field has always been a place where fans cheer loudly and support their team.
Stadium features
The Bernard C. Richardson Zone is at the north end of Kyle Field. It has over 20,000 seats and is much closer to the field. It also has a museum about Texas A&M sports. The Zone has different types of seating, including special areas with TVs and a bar.
The old press box was high above the field and could hold many reporters. It would sway during a special Aggie song, which sometimes surprised visitors. It was updated to meet safety rules.
A very large screen called "12th Man TV" was added to show games and other videos. It is one of the biggest in college sports. There are also smaller screens around the stadium.
The area near the north end of the stadium has a special spot where the Aggie mascots, named Reveille, are buried. When the stadium was updated, their graves were moved temporarily and then returned to a new, improved spot outside the Zone.
Other events held at Kyle Field
During the summer, Kyle Field welcomes young athletes for football training camps. In the fall, the stadium hosts many high school football playoff games from across Texas. It is also the place where the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets holds special events for parents each year.
In 2024, Kyle Field had some exciting events. On June 8, Mexico and Brazil played a friendly soccer match there, with Brazil winning 3–2 in front of lots of fans. Country singer George Strait also performed there on June 15, drawing a huge crowd of 110,905 people, the largest ever at the stadium.
