Lower Franconia
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Lower Franconia, known in German as Unterfranken, is one of the seven districts in the state of Bavaria in Germany. It is part of a larger area called Franconia, which also includes Middle and Upper Franconia. Lower Franconia is made up of nine smaller districts and has 308 different towns and cities, including three big cities. This area has its own special culture and history, making it an important part of Bavaria.
History
After the Kingdom of Bavaria was created, the land was reorganised. In 1808, it was split into 15 areas, similar to how France organised its regions. Over time, the number of these areas changed because of shifts in land, like losing Tyrol and gaining the Palatinate. One area was called the Untermainkreis (Lower Main District). In 1837, King Ludwig I of Bavaria gave these areas new names based on old local names and tribes. The Untermainkreis became Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg, though the city name was later dropped.
In 1972, a big change happened where many smaller areas in Lower Franconia were combined into just nine larger ones.
The main part of the Franconian wine region lies in Lower Franconia.

Economy
The economy of Lower Franconia was quite strong in 2018. The total value of goods and services made in the area was about 53.7 billion euros, which was a small but important part of all the goods and services made in Germany that year.
People living there could travel by plane using two big airports nearby: Frankfurt Airport and Nuremberg Airport.
Coat of arms
The coat of arms shows the Franconian Rake, a symbol of the old Duchy of Franconia, at the top. In the lower left part, there is a banner called the "Rennfähnlein" on a blue background, which represents Würzburg. In the lower right part, there is a white wheel on a red background, symbolizing the church state of Mainz.
