Megalaspides is an extinct genus from a well-known class of fossil marine arthropods, the trilobites. These ancient creatures lived during the later part of the Arenig stage of the Ordovician Period, a time long ago.

Scientists estimate that Megalaspides existed around 478 to 471 million years ago. Like other trilobites, it was a sea creature with a hard shell, living in the oceans of a very different Earth. Studying fossils like Megalaspides helps us learn about life from millions of years ago and how animals have changed over time.
