Navantia, S.A. is a Spanish company that builds ships and designs advanced technology systems. It was created in 2005 when it took over the military parts of the IZAR Group. Navantia makes many kinds of ships, including ones that float on the surface and submarines that go underwater.

The company employs nearly 5,000 workers in cities such as La Coruña, Cádiz, Cartagena, and Madrid. After buying Harland & Wolff, Navantia also has about 1,000 workers in the United Kingdom, with shipyards in places like Belfast, Arnish, Appledore, and Methil.

Navantia is one of the biggest shipbuilders in Europe and the world. It is also growing into new areas, such as making structures for wind energy and other ocean-based industries.

Navantia has a long history that started in the 13th century with important shipyards in Spain. These shipyards helped in big discoveries, like finding America. Over time, shipbuilding moved to different places in Spain.

In 2005, Navantia was created from parts of a bigger company called IZAR. It is fully owned by the Spanish government and focuses on designing and building both military and civilian ships. In 2021, Navantia launched a submarine designed and built entirely in Spain, a big achievement 133 years after the first military submarine was made.

Products

Navantia has worked on many important ships and systems. Some of their major projects include aircraft carriers like the Príncipe de Asturias and the HTMS Chakri Naruebet. They have also built amphibious assault ships such as the Juan Carlos I-class light aircraft-carrier and the Canberra-class LHD.

Other projects include supply ships like the Cantabria and frigates such as the F-100 Álvaro de Bazán-class frigate. Navantia has also created corvettes, patrol ships, and submarines like the Scorpène-class submarine. They have contributed to many types of naval vessels and systems over the years.
