New Era (Namibia)
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The New Era is a daily national newspaper in Namibia, owned by the Government of Namibia. It is one of four main daily newspapers in the country, along with The Namibian, Die Republikein, and Allgemeine Zeitung. The newspaper was created in 1992 by an act called the New Era Publications Corporation Act.
It started as a weekly paper, then became bi-weekly, and has been published daily since 2004. The New Era is printed in English and five local languages: Otjiherero, Oshiwambo, Damara/Nama, Silozi, and Khwedam. Its usual circulation is around 9,000 copies, with up to 11,000 on Fridays.
The newspaper is run by the New Era Publication Corporation. Because government leaders have influence over its management, some people believe it supports the government’s views. However, studies have shown that it sometimes criticizes the government, too. Festus Nakatana is the managing editor of the New Era.
