Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The Norwich Sea Unicorns are a baseball team based in Norwich, Connecticut. From 2010 to 2020, they were part of Minor League Baseball in the New York–Penn League, serving as the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. They played their home games at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium and were called the Connecticut Tigers from 2010 to 2019.
After Major League Baseball reorganized the minor leagues following the 2020 season, Norwich was not chosen to keep its place in affiliated baseball. Beginning in 2021, the team joined the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and became known as the Norwich Sea Unicorns.
History
In January 2010, the baseball team called the Oneonta Tigers announced they would move from Oneonta, New York, to Norwich, Connecticut, after the 2009 season. They started playing in 2010 at Dodd Stadium, which had just been renovated.
In 2011, more fans came to watch the games than the year before. The team was called the Connecticut Tigers because they were connected to the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball. In 2019, the team decided to change its name and asked fans to help choose a new one. After looking at fan suggestions, they became the Norwich Sea Unicorns.
The 2020 season was delayed and later cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After that, Major League Baseball changed how minor leagues worked, and the Sea Unicorns joined a different league called the Futures Collegiate Baseball League in 2021.

The Norwich Sea Unicorns played in several playoff games over the years. In 2014, they lost to the Tri-City team in the semifinals. In 2024, they beat the Vermont Lake Monsters again in the semifinals and then defeated the Westfield Starfires to win the championship.
