Pallantium

Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Discoverer experience

Pallantium was an ancient city near the Tiber river on the Italian peninsula. According to Roman mythology, as told by Virgil in his book Aeneid, the city was founded by a man named Evander of Pallene and other ancient Greeks before the Trojan War. Some writers, like Dionysius of Halicarnassus, say the city was named after a place called Pallantium of Arcadia.

The story of Pallantium's beginning was important to ancient Roman myths because this city later became part of ancient Rome. This linked Rome's beginning to ancient Greek heroes. Other nearby cities were founded by different groups of people called Italic tribes.

Virgil said Evander named the city after his ancestor named Pallas. But other writers suggest Evander named it after his hometown in Arcadia. The city played a role in the early history of Rome, as it was one of the places that came together to form the great city we know today.
